EMS International Day

Friday, April 26

The first-ever Eastern Middle School International Day will take place during the school day on Friday, April 26, 2024. The purpose of the day is to learn about many of the different cultures represented by EMS. In our building, we have students and staff affiliated with over 50 countries!

Homerooms are completing their trifold informational posters about their assigned countries in preparation for two of our events, the Gallery Walk and the School Wide Trivia Game.

It will be a day full of learning, fun games, and assembly. It will include multiple cultural musical events including a drumming trio and a band, a cricket game, and much more!

Parents, we need your help to make this a success!

There are several ways to contribute:

-Bringing items from your culture or country for display

-Cooking a delicious dish to be served at our staff luncheon

-Helping with setup and takedown

Currently, we have items representing countries such as Ireland, Greece, Romania, Germany, Italy, India, South Korea, UK, Denmark, Brazil, and Pakistan. However, we would love to expand this collection to include items from other countries as well.

If you have any cultural items such as books, paintings, textile, decorations, or clothing that you would like to contribute to our display, please bring them to the EMS office. (Small to medium size items would be appreciated, as there is limited space now. Please label the item with your name, phone number, and the country it represents.) Additionally, we are accepting digital submissions of cultural photos. Simply upload your cultural photos to this folder, and they will be printed and displayed.

As part of the International Day, we would like to introduce the game of Cricket to our students.

Help introduce the game of Cricket to our students. There will be around 70-80 kids in each session. It would be great if the volunteers could explain the rules of the game, have them do a demonstration, and then help them play the game, giving tips, rules, etc along the way.
